Japanese box

Buxus japonica

The perfect plant if you looking for a well-behaved hedge or a container plant that you can sculpt into shapely designs.

Japanese box has lovely dark green foliage, with a glossy sheen, and the finely rounded leaf provides a dense compact finish to a clipped hedge. Always use sharp shears when you’re pruning. You will only need to prune once a year in the summer when the new growth has hardened, to maintain the shape and size of your hedge. Feed regularly in spring and in autumn, with an organic all-purpose fertiliser, applying a soft mulch or compost under your hedge to set your Buxus for toughing out periods of dryness, and any challenging environmental conditions.
